Three Things I Love About Bangkok

So my reason for visiting Bangkok was simply as a stopover on my way to Cambodia as there is no direct route from Scotland. Additionally, I get time to recover from the jet-lag, meet my Thai friends and enjoy some of the things I love about Bangkok.

1. Food

What's not to love about Thai food? I am a real foodie, There's hardly anything I won't eat (though tripe comes to mind). Asian food is my absolute favourite and it's neck and neck between Thai and Vietnamese for my number 1 spot. So I just love being In Thailand with access to so much of the delicious food I love. Some dishes enjoyed so far include hot and sour soup with beef as well as spicy rice noodles with shrimp. Now for the shocker - I met my Thai friends, at an Italian restaurant! La Scala at the Sukhotahi Hotel serves, in my opinion, the best pizza I have ever had. The Pizza Schiacciatina is a marvel. Pizza base and a pizza top filled with mascarpone cheese, sliced tomatoes, rocket and parma ham, mmmmmmmm.

2. Shrines, Temples and Palaces

3. Uni Glo

Yes really! For someone who hates and avoids shopping (except gadgets) Uni Glo really gets me. I can’t explain it and for those of you who are real shopaholics, finally I understand you! When I’m in Asia, this is the one shop I have to activley manage my uncontrolable compulsion to purchase. This was especially difficult on this trip since I have challenged myself to travel as light as possible during these four months. So successful have I been in this pursuit, the checkout assistant at the BA counter in Glasgow was mighty impressed I had managed to get four months of necessities gathered together in just 18 kilos! I know, impressive eh? So I knew a visit to Uni Qlo was going to be a test, given I had so little space. Outcome - only four items purchased. Now the challenge is to get through the rest of my trip avoiding this retail demon of temptation.
